At Shelley Primary School, our Reception classes offer a warm and inspiring start to school life. Following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, we support children in becoming confident, curious, and capable learners, grounded in our values of aspiration, respect, and togetherness.
Learning Through Exploration
Children thrive when they’re encouraged to aim high and follow their interests. Our balanced approach combines play-based learning with adult-guided activities across seven key areas, from communication and literacy to maths and creative expression. We tailor our teaching to each child, helping them grow as independent and resilient learners.

Every child’s journey is unique. Our experienced team builds strong relationships with children and families, creating a nurturing environment where each child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.
Growing Together
We value strong home-school partnerships and a sense of community. Through open communication and shared experiences, children in Reception not only begin their learning journey but also develop the values of kindness, cooperation, and respect.
